Abstract

The research was conducted at TPA Al-Muhtadin, located on Jl. Mahligai, Mahligai Indah Complex, RT 11 RW 02, Kertak Hanyar, Banjar Regency. The research problems in this study are: What is the description of the Qur’an reading interest among the students of TPA Al-Muhtadin Kertak Hanyar? What strategies are used, and what factors hinder and support the improvement of this interest?, The objectives of this research are: to determine the level of interest in reading the Qur’an among the students of TPA Al-Muhtadin Kertak Hanyar; to identify the strategies used by TPA teachers in increasing students’ interest in reading the Qur’an; and to determine the factors that hinder and support TPA teachers in improving students’ interest in reading the Qur’an. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study show that the students’ interest in reading the Qur’an is quite good and can be categorized as moderate, as there is already self-awareness among the students to learn to read the Qur’an, both at the Iqra and Al-Qur’an levels. The strategies used by the teachers at TPA Al-Muhtadin to increase interest in reading the Qur’an include conducting initial and closing classical sessions and giving assignments to be done at home, such as repeating the recitations that were practiced at the TPA. The supporting factor for teachers in increasing students’ interest in reading the Qur’an is the emergence of students’ personal awareness of the importance of reading the Qur’an. The inhibiting factor is the lack of cooperation between teachers and parents in providing Qur’an reading instruction.
