Abstract

Faith (iman) is a fundamental concept in Islamic theology that shapes both belief and practice. However, its meaning is often understood narrowly as mere acknowledgment of belief, without deeper reflection on its comprehensive dimensions. This study aims to revisit and examine the meaning of faith as presented in the Qur’an and Hadith, highlighting its theological, spiritual, and practical aspects. Using a qualitative library research method, this study analyzes relevant Qur’anic verses and Prophetic traditions related to iman, supported by classical and contemporary Islamic scholarship. The findings indicate that faith in Islam is not limited to inner belief (tasdiq al-qalb), but also encompasses verbal affirmation (iqrar bil-lisan) and concrete actions (‘amal bil-arkan). Furthermore, the Qur’an and Hadith emphasize that faith is dynamic—it can increase and decrease depending on one’s obedience and moral conduct. This study concludes that understanding iman holistically is essential for fostering a balanced Islamic worldview that integrates belief, worship, and ethical behavior in daily life
