Abstract

Multicultural education is highly essential in Indonesia due to its diverse ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and social backgrounds. At Madrasah Tsanawiyah Satu Atap Al-Amin, Alalak District, Barito Kuala Regency, differences in religious practices exist because students come from both Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah backgrounds. Therefore, this study is necessary to describe the readiness of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in facing the challenges of multiculturalism within the madrasah environment, ensuring that these differences do not trigger conflict but instead become a social strength for the school. This study aims to provide a significant contribution to the development of PAI teaching methods that are inclusive, tolerant, and in line with the spirit of multiculturalism in the school environment. This study employs field research with a qualitative approach. The results indicate that the readiness of PAI teachers at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Satu Atap Al-Amin encompasses aspects of knowledge, attitude, and skills in managing student diversity. This readiness is demonstrated by the teachers' profound understanding of the multicultural reality in the school, the preparation of lesson plans (RPP), the implementation of management strategies, and the provision of exemplary roles for the students. Meanwhile, the challenges of multiculturalism at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Satu Atap Al-Amin lie in the differences in religious traditions between NU and Muhammadiyah, as well as aligning the children's opinions brought from home with those taught at school.
