Abstract

The process of interpreting the Koran continues to develop from Arabic to all corners of the world. Among them, Malaysia. Interpretation of the Koran in Malaysia began in the 17th century through the oral speech of preachers. Meanwhile, the tradition of writing interpretations of the Koran only emerged in the 20th century. And as a way of transmitting Islamic values, the interpretation of the Koran in Malaysia was in the preaching of preachers and under the influence of previous interpretive figures. It is noted that Abdurrauf as-Sinkily, Muhammad Abduh and Rasyid Ridha, and al-Maraghi are the figures who have most influenced the interpretation of the Koran and Islamic studies in Malaysia. This article will look at the journey of Al-Quran interpretation according to the way it was transmitted by the preachers, and how the influence of each figure changed the order of tafsir studies in Malaysia. As a result, the process of interpreting the Koran in Malaysia was identified as growing through the hands of preachers who were exposed to the ideology of their teachers, as well as previous interpreters
